'The other world' M.C. Escher

A quick glance into the other world

Own experiences teach people

By Lars A. Fischinger

Probably everyone has once in his lifetime posed the question about life after death. Almost every person must have made thoughts of what is going to happen after this earth life. And when that is not so, then sometime the day will come when he does. Because one cannot evade death, it is part of life.

But many do not worry at all about this or even about rebirth. However, they are certain from their own experience; Yes, the hereafter exists. Yes, after death there is an afterlife in ‘another world’. We speak about people who experienced a so-called NDE (Near Death Experience), a very extensive theme encompassing many rare phenomenons, which is being investigated already for many centuries. But during the last decades, medicine and more particularly first aid services have been developed rapidly. Because of that many have been snatched away from death, causing a new interest in BDE by researchers and medical professionals.

These NDE’s nowadays are rated amongst the parasciences and are often viewed upon with apprehension. However serious investigation exists! The ‘standard’ experience explicitly does not exist. NDE research though, often describes such an experience as follows: At a so called ‘dying experience’ the person concerned often experiences the feeling that his inner self, his I, or simply his soul (also the expression ‘astral body’ is used) separates itself from his physical body and starts to float above the stage. With that he seemingly sees his body ‘from above’, for instance in his sickbed while the doctors and the nursing personnel are fighting for his life. Just a few moments later a kind of tunnel is said to open itself. Following that the concerned is sucked into this long tunnel and floats towards a bright but not blinding light at the end of the tunnel.

This sub phenomenon at NDE is surely the most wide known issue to the general public. Also, in the vicinity of this tunnel to the other world, often a so-called film of life is mentioned. This is to say that to the concerned important scenes from his whole life are shown. Sometimes as pictures, but more often as a movie, to which he is only a passive witness.

When the concerned at last enters the light at the end of the long tunnel, he finds himself in an enigmatic setting. Often this ‘hereafter’ is compared to a garden or green pastures. Gorgeous flowers and an almost heavenly beauty are part of this spectacle. Almost without exception, the persons concerned claim they notice an indescribable feeling of love, tranquillity and protection. Comparable to nothing, they experienced earlier.

In this landscape of unconditional refuge and peace, often a more than special meeting with a ‘light being’, a saint or an earlier passed dearest, occur. Interesting is that followers of the different world religions at NDE meet with their individual religious persons. When Christians would meet Jesus, Muslins would meet Mohammed.

While the concerned have come to this point of their NDE, the page is turned abruptly. The ‘being of light’, or who else one has met, states the time hasn’t come yet and that they have to go back to their own life. Only moments later the concerned feel an indescribable power that brings them quickly back into their own bodies.

What is happening here? Not all NDE’s end up as in the example, but might have other characteristics. Moreover not all involved people describe the same above mentioned details. But sometimes it can be that a victim of e.g. a car accident has left his body and is floating somewhere over the event. The author has, for example, after an accident and before he fell into coma, beheld the famous film of life

Almost all religions in the world allure their followers with the assurance of a promising afterlife. This can be the inclusion in paradise or a rebirth on earth. In Christianity, as well as in other old religions in many parts of the world, an afterlife and a selection of souls are practiced. Some come in ‘heaven’, and are rewarded with eternal life. Others – those whom do not follow Christianity – are punished in eternal ‘hell’. It is interesting to remark, that NDE research knows of cases of death experiences, in which the concerned experiences kind of a torment. Such messages however, do not occur as often as the ‘happy’ ones.

Dr. Raymond Moody, the most renowned researcher in NDE investigation, supposes though, that those who experienced hell-visions, keep out of shame silent about their experiences. `Frequently, as some researchers state, Christians with such an experience, describe such a Judgement of God as is worded in the bible. Moreover, such tribunals in which the deeds of the people on earth are weighed are to be found as well within a great number of very old cultures.

Further to the question if these remarkable experiences of dying people would be genuine proof of a life after death. Or are they maybe only protection functions of the body, produced by hormones of luck? Then also the question about ghosts and other ‘stuff’ is valid. Ghosts, demons, messages about reincarnation, visions about the future, so-called spontaneous communication with the hereafter, and so forth, belong undeniably to the question about a life after death.

How it may be, the question about a possible life after death is not resolved at all – until we die ourselves.
